“Cottonwood Tango on the Sea” – Detail

This carving brings out every distinctive feature of the rustic Cottonwood slab. The log, from which this piece was meticulously carved, spent more than a decade at the periphery of a farmer’s field, drying under the desert sun. Over time, it developed water stains, spalling, cracks, and signs of insect activity, which are now integral to its character. These remarkable details, combined with the intricate grain patterns, ageing, and its natural hues, are further enhanced by the unique textured carving and a finishing touch of natural oil and wax.

This stand was designed specifically for a clients Jerry Anderson Bronze that is also a fountain. This piece was designed to withstand direct contact with water droplets, spills, and dampness. Notice the slight gaps where the legs meet the upper and lower table surfaces. These gaps allow wood expansion so that the stand will remain structurally sound, in the presence of sustained water contact.
